“Disaster Preparedness & Crisis Communication” and “SBA Resources and Access to Capital” training workshop at LB Expo Arts Center

On 11/12/2022, William Stephanie Foun­da­tion host­ed the ​“Dis­as­ter Pre­pared­ness & Cri­sis Com­mu­ni­ca­tion” and ​“SBA Resources and Access to Cap­i­tal” train­ing work­shop at LB Expo Arts Cen­ter in the City of Long Beach. 66 peo­ple attend­ed. Our guest speak­ers fea­tured the For­mer Sher­iff of Los Ange­les Coun­ty, Mr. Jim McDon­nell, Chair­man of William Stephanie Foun­da­tion, Mr. Daniel Sieu, Research Direc­tor at Uni­ver­si­ty of South­ern Cal­i­for­nia, Dr. Matt Zhou, Lead Export Finance Man­ag­er of the U.S. Small Busi­ness Admin­is­tra­tion, Mr. Pell­son Lau, and Senior Vice Pres­i­dent of the Small Busi­ness Devel­op­ment Cor­po­ra­tion of Orange Coun­ty, Mr. Nestor Correa. 

We think the best moment is Mr. Daniel Sieu’s speech about dis­as­ter pre­pared­ness. Dur­ing the speech, Mr. Sieu rein­forced that dis­as­ters such as Cal­i­for­nia Wild­fire and COVID-19 Pan­dem­ic could hap­pen in the future, so it is always a good idea for busi­ness­es to prac­tice drills and pre­pare emer­gency kits for disasters. 

The audi­ences pri­mar­i­ly include small brick and mor­tar busi­ness own­ers (Cam­bo­di­ans), such as bar­ber­shop, restau­rant, and real estate/​insurance agents. The audi­ences have lis­tened care­ful­ly about our busi­ness work­shops and have sent feed­back to us that they have learned a lot about dis­as­ter pre­pared­ness, pub­lic safe­ty, cri­sis com­mu­ni­ca­tion, access to cap­i­tal, and SBA resources.

The rea­son for hold­ing this event is to con­nect Khmer & AAPI entre­pre­neurs to resources & pro­vide a space to net­work in order to build a sus­tain­able econ­o­my with­in our com­mu­ni­ty, and help busi­ness­es own­ers of all eth­nic­i­ties to real­ize their dreams.
